I often wonder if other professions are as mired in elitist pricks as software engineering. Is it because we all got picked on in high school that we feel the need to lord our skill set over others? Or maybe its that the time required to be a good engineer leaves most of us with little time to develop social skills. (The latter sounds more appealing. It's an easier pill to swallow for my years of dickwaddery.)
The prompting for this little article was a recent post I made to the beyond unreal forums (as Ominae392) with regards to a problem in Unrealscript I'm having. (As of this posting the user has actually pulled back his response a bit.) His original response called in question my ability to program when really the details are superfluous to the problem.
I wish I could find a better example. There are so many forum posts out there from new users looking for aid only to be crushed under the iron boot of some fuckwad living in mom's basement. To be fair there are a fair number of terrible developers out there. Most of these developers ask simple questions that could be found by reading a manual or running a couple of tests.
Short post today, I've been working some lengthy hours and my vision is beginning to blur.
In a complete tangent from the above topic: This is simply amazing. Indie game development has come a long ways since the days of shitty 2D avatars. Full 3D engines with decent physics models pre-built in to the system. Amazing.
