Welcome to No Pity for the Masses, a precious little area where I bitch about shit you couldn't care less about. :)
Recently I was asked by a friend to design a simple website for his personal training business. As you can see I've got the basic framework down but obviously there is a lot more work to be done. For those not in the technical "know" please understand that the simplicity of the interface belies the technically difficult underbelly.
The nice thing about starting this project was it gave me the kick in the ass I needed to start my own webserver. That's right, everything here is housed on my home PC for the low price of a domain name registration and a years worth of dynamic IP routing.
This entire site actually runs in a virtual environment. All of the benefits of linux with the ability to retain my game running Windows machine and no dual boot required. Fuck dual boot, if I can't game in linux what's the point of a full blown OS implementation. The other nice thing is if there are problems I can reload from an earlier backup. Huzzah! For anyone interested I'll be posting a fairly sizable article on my trials and tribulations sometime in the next few weeks.
Unfortunately I don't have the funds to donate to the Child's Play Charity (banner above) this year but please, even though it is so close to x-mas, find the time to donate to one of these hospitals. Getting a letter back from your hospital of choice is an amazing feeling, even for a hyper-jilted software engineer such as myself.
This post is going to be a bit short. I'm really just testing out the database stability and playing with the prefs. I hope, in the future, to inject a bit of structure to my ramblings.
